The Pointe du Raz is a rocky blade of land reaching into the Atlantic at the western end of Cap Sizun. The currents of the Raz de Sein between the point and the Île de Sein are among the most dangerous in Europe, watched over by the Phare de la Vieille on its rock.
Visiting
The site is a protected Grand Site de France. Cars are parked at the visitor centre about 1 km from the point (paid in season), and a path or shuttle leads to the headland. Paths along the cliffs are marked; keep to them, as the edges are unstable.
Nearby
- The Baie des Trépassés (Bay of the Dead), a sandy cove popular with surfers.
- The Pointe du Van, quieter and equally beautiful, across the bay.
- Boats to the Île de Sein from Audierne.
Tips
- Pointe du Raz is about an hour from Quimper.
- It can be extremely windy; bring a windproof jacket even in summer.
