Brittany has a mild, oceanic climate: cool summers, mild winters and changeable weather all year. For most travellers, June and September are the sweet spots.
The seasons
Spring (March–May)
Gorse and wildflowers on the cliffs, quiet roads and big equinox tides. Some coastal hotels and island services are still on reduced schedules.
Summer (June–August)
Long days and the warmest weather, typically low to mid-20s°C, with occasional heat waves. July and August bring festivals and French holiday crowds; book well ahead.
Autumn (September–November)
September is often settled, with the sea at its warmest (around 17–19°C) and fewer people. From October, storms and short days arrive.
Winter (December–February)
Mild but wet and windy, with dramatic storm watching on the headlands. Many seaside businesses close; cities like Rennes and Nantes stay lively.
Weather tips
- The south coast (Morbihan) is usually sunnier and warmer than the north and west.

- August: Festival Interceltique (Lorient), La Route du Rock (Saint-Malo).
